The Transformers: Dark of the Moon Blu-ray doesn’t hit the streets officially until next week, but you can get a look at one of the special features early right here. In this video clip director Michael Bay and other members of the production team explain some of the special challenges that came with shooting the special-effects heavy movie in 3D. It required changes to his usual frenetic cutting style with fewer pans and longer shots, as well as extra work by the editors on each element of animation overlaid on each frame

Netflix’s Q4 2011 earnings report is in, and the company indicates its streaming subscriber count is now 21.67 million. DVD subscribers were still down however, although not as much as expected with cancellations peaking in September when the services split , leaving it with a total number of 24.4 million customers

Paramount became the first studio to offer UltraViolet-based movies this week, with the launch of Paramount Movies. With this new service, users can purchase a film in either digital or physical form, and automatically store a copy of it within Paramount’s cloud-based digital locker. This effectively allows you to stream a film to any iOS device, though support for Android and Windows Phone remains unavailable (as does compatibility with most set-top boxes)

Turns out that Disney loves the fishes because they’re going to be in 3D. Disney has announced that Pixar’s animated classic Finding Nemo will hit theaters this Fall for a limited, three-dimensional run. This isn’t the first time Disney has re-released 2D Pixar films in 3D.

The latest scuttlebutt on Apple’s big education announcement next week: the company is venturing into textbooks. An industry insider confirmed to the New York Times that Apple will, in fact, be partnering with textbook publishers. No new devices will be shown, the source says, but Apple will discuss their new digital textbook business next week.
